Dear Heupel Family,
I was so saddened to hear of Jackie's passing, and I'm very sorry for your loss. I knew her for nearly 20 years, beginning when I worked with her on staff development projects at Moanalua High School. She had such energy and passion for education and made a great contribution to the students of Hawaii.
I was happy when Jackie came to UH to pursue her Master's degree. She was the perfect example of a lifelong learner. I also came to know her much better as a friend.
I know how excited she was when her grandson was born, coinciding with her 50th wedding anniversary. I'm so happy she got to experience those two milestones, but I wish she'd had more years to spend with all of you and to see Koa grow. I'm sure, though, that she's looking over him and all of you, and she will live on through her legacy and all the wonderful memories she created for her loved ones.
