James Mason Burgoyne's Obituary
James Mason Burgoyne, 93, of Kailua, Hawaii passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his residence. He was the eldest of three children born to Thomas Edward Burgoyne and Evelyn Mase on July 19, 1922 in Belmont, Wisconsin He was the director of student housing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a United States Navy Veteran.
He attended the University of Wisconsin and obtained a Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration degrees.
After serving 26 years as a director of student housing at the University of Hawaii James retired in 1991. He became a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and was involved with the Blood Bank of Hawaii and YMCA.
He lived in Kailua, Hawaii for 50 years, previously in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. He was married to Luella Duff on August 27, 1955 and was a member of Christ Church, Kailua.
He served in the United States Navy from November 1, 1943 to April 7, 1946 during World War II. He received medals such as; Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal.
Important events in James’ life was his marriage to Luella and the adoption of two children. He enjoyed volunteer work, gardening, watching college football and walking.
He will be remembered as a kind, loving, generous, person who was handsome and had an unforgettable smile.
He is survived by wife, Luella Burgoyne; daughter, Holly Burgoyne Ames; daughter-in-law, Tammy Burgoyne; three grandchildren, Brett, McKenna and Kade.
Memorial Service for Mr. Burgoyne will be held on at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Christ Church Uniting Disciple & Presbyterians, Kailua Road
In lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made to Doctors without Borders.
