Janet Ululani Medeiros' Obituary
Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary at Valley of the Temple regrets to announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. Janet Ululani Medeiros, 71, of Kaneohe, HI, passed away peacefully in her home on December 4th, 2024. While her physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her radiant spirit will forever shine brightly, much like the sunsets and rainbows she cherished so deeply.
Janet was born on November 9th,1953 in Honolulu, HI to her late parents Henry Nailima Cummings and Hilda Theresa Morse. Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Mitchell Cadiente, her children Tiare Kealoha and Justin Medeiros, her 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, her beloved sisters, nephews, nieces and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter Kristie Kiliwehi Medeiros, her former husband Randolph K Medeiros, her twin brothers Harry and Howard Cummings, her parents Hilda Theresa Morse and Henry Nailima Cummings, her grandparents Lucy and John Pico Jr. from Maderia, Portugal. Janet also reunites with her great-grandparents, Joaquin Rodrigues Sousa Sr. (1877-1962) and Mathilde de Sousa (1877-1972) who immigrated from Madeira, Portugal to Hawaii in 1907 aboard the S.S. Kumeric.
Janet lived a life of selflessness, always putting others before herself. Her journey was one of service and compassion. For 20 years, her career at Job Corps in Waimanalo transformed lives by guiding troubled teens with wisdom and empathy, offering them hope and a chance to find their way. Beyond her role as a counselor, Janet was a fierce advocate for her coworkers, fearlessly standing up as a union representative to protect their rights and livelihoods. Her compassion knew no bounds. This compassion led her to the Salvation Army, where she offered care and support to mothers overcoming substance abuse. Janets nurturing spirit created a healing space for these women and their children, leaving a lasting impact that cannot be measured.
Her life was deeply rooted in love, especially the unbreakable bond she shared with her husband, Mitchell. Together, they built a strong and beautiful life with purpose and an unwavering dedication to each other. Her greatest joy came from her children, Justin, Kristie and Tiare and her 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. They embody her legacy of love and resilience to the fullest.
Janet had a way of making everyone feel seen and heard, a gift she extended to her nieces and nephews as "Auntie Janet." She always knew the right words to reassure them, to let them know that everything would be okay. Janets creativity and love for beauty came alive in her passions- crafting enchanting fairy gardens, designing serene koi ponds, and soaking in the wonder of Hawaii's breathtaking sunsets. She had a special talent for creating magic, not only in her surroundings but also in the hearts of those she loved.
Janet was so much more than just a sister; she was their anchor. Her fierce devotion and loyalty remind us that family is forever, especially in our bond as sisters and to our late twin brothers Harry and Howard Cummings. They will forever cherish the love and memories they shared, a love that was unshakeable and eternal.
A Celebration of Janet's life will be announced on Mitchell Cadientes Facebook page. They hope you will join them in honoring Janets remarkable legacy. Together you can share stories, memories, and the love she so freely gave to you all. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations via Mitchell's GoFundMe page.
"As her sister, I can tell you that Janets heart, strength and love are woven into every fiber of our lives. She may no longer walk this earth with us, but her presence will forever live in every sunset and every rainbow, in every act of kindness and love. Janet's spirit endures, reminding us of the beauty she cherished and the profound impact she left on every life she touched. Rest in peace, my beautiful sister. You will always be with us." -Jamie Pearl
