Jerome Kansuke Punohu Nakachi, Jr.'s Obituary
Jerome Kansuke Punohu Nakachi, Jr., 49, of Kāne‛ohe, O‛ahu passed away at the Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Hawai‛i on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 surrounded by his wife, son and family. He was the youngest of three children born to Jerome K. P. Nakachi and Marie Evelyn Sampaio on February 16, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. He was a graduate of James B. Castle High School, Class of 1985. For nearly 20 years, Jr. served as an adult corrections officer with the State of Hawai‘i, Department of Public Safety.
Jr. enjoyed laying net, fishing and spending time in the ocean. In addition to his knowledge and expertise of various ocean skills, he was an absolutely amazing cook, who loved to prepare meals for his family and others. Jr. was also a natural cultivator and appreciated working with plants. He was like a plant whisperer with a gift to revive plants and make them thrive. He was an incredible mechanic with the ability to take apart and reassemble a carburetor effortlessly. He took immense joy in imparting his knowledge to the keiki in his life.
Jr. was a man of many passions; above all else was his immeasurable love for his wife, Maria and son, Noah. The devotion, adoration and pride he had for them were undeniable.
A handsome man with an unforgettable smile and a playful sense of humor, Jr. had a larger than life spirit and touched the lives of all who were blessed with his presence. His strength, protective nature and innate nurturing qualities were so reflective of his unique character.
He often put others ahead of himself and was accepting of all people regardless of social stature.
Jr. was loved by so many. He will truly be missed and his absence will be felt by all who knew him. We have comfort in knowing that we will be together again.

He is survived by his wife, Maria K. Nakachi; son, Noah Punohu Nakachi; mother, Marie (Gary) Sampaio Nakachi; father, Jerome (Velma) Nakachi, Sr.; sister, Kitty (Phillip) Quiton; half-brother, James "Butch" Generalao; nephews, Kekoa Nakachi, Phillip Quiton, Preston Quiton and Paul Quiton, Likeke Nakachi-Isaacs and Nokeakua Nakachi-Isaacs; sister-in-law, Mililani Michelle Isaacs; many aunties, uncles, cousins and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his sister Geraldine "Gerry" Wailani Nakachi and brother Richard Lawrence Nakachi.
Celebration of Life services for Jr. will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Hawaii Memorial Park Mortuary (located at 45-425 Kamehameha Highway Kaneohe, Hawaii 96744); visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with service to commence at 12:00 p.m. Continuation of visitation will be from 12:45 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Pastries and lunch to be served during visitation.
