Joan M. Camp's Obituary
Joan Marie Ward Piquette Camp was born August 25, 1932 in Spokane, WA to Mary Elizabeth Piquette Ward of Montana and Ralph Leon Ward of Idaho. She passed peacefully in her home on June 27, 2022, at the age of 89.
Joan graduated in 1950 from Sacred Heart Academy High School, in Missoula, Montana and in 1954, she graduated from Montana State University, where she was a member of Kappa Gamma Sorority, and Theater and Debate clubs.
In her passion for travel, she boarded the RMS Queen Elizabeth on a journey to Alaska, via Honolulu, Hawaii. However, midway she fell in love with Hawaii and decided to stay and began working at Islands Welding & Supply Co., where she met George Worthington Camp; eventually marrying him on May 21, 1960. Shortly after, in 1961 George and Joan began both their family and their own business, Atlas Sales Co., Inc. becoming the premier scaffolding and forming supply company in Hawaii.
As a strong advocate of education, she was an unswerving supporter of her alma mater Sacred Heart Academy in Missoula, MT as well as Iolani High School in Honolulu and numerous other educational and social endeavors. One of her frequent sayings was, “education is the only thing that no one can take away from you.”
Joan joins her spouse George of 46 years and is survived by her children Ronald (with Denys), Gary (with Cathy), Virginia (with Harold) and Phillip (with Jennifer), and by her eight grandchildren - Niklas and Lana (Ron), Briana and David (Gary), Jennifer and Brian (Virginia) and Mayasol and Mateo (Phillip).
