John Stanley Anusewicz's Obituary
John S. Anusewicz Sr. passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 102 years in Honolulu, Hawaii. A long life which started in Boston, MA in 1923. He served in the 9th U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII with the 48th Fighter Group, 492nd Squadron as a Sergeant overseeing the armament of the P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft. He was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal along with the Distinguished Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster (6Dec 1944), EAME Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Battle of the Bulge Campaign (6 major battle stars), Star Three / Unit Belgium Citation with Fourragere (6 Jun 44 / 1 Oct 44 / 18 Dec 44), Army of Occupation of Germany Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Medal.
John’s primary career was with the State of Massachusetts / Department of Public Works as the Head Traffic Inspector retiring in 1985. He served the state for over thirty years.
John will be remembered for his outgoing personality and his love of music, playing the piano for nearly ninety years and tap dancing into his eighties.
John was preceded in death by his wife Alice and his son John. He is survived by his children Colette Anusewicz (Florida) and Tom Anusewicz (wife, Jamie) (Honolulu) and his 3 grandchildren: Kristen, Michelle and Kate and great grandchild Lilly.
John will be inurned at the National Memorial Cemetery (Bourne, MA) in a private service at a future date.
