John “Captain Jack” Albert McCormick Jr., of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Straub Clinic and Hospital in Honolulu; he was 89 years old. He was the eldest of three children born to John Albert Read Obituary
I am very sorry to hear of "Captain Jack's " passing. I had MANY MANY fun hours flying with Jack when I was a 707/720 Flight engineer at Western. I ALWAYS looked forward to flying with him. I'll never forget the time I saw Jack in ops and I said :Hi Jack!!"....and he took me by the arm and said "Jim,,,please greet me with Hi John....HIJACK gives me the hiccups!!!!" I laughed so hard I had tears!!! This was during the "Hijack times". Fond memories "Captain Jack"....Rest In Peace".
Mr. McCormick was a very special man. I remember, as a child, thinking he had such an exotic job. Little did I know, that he was living his dream. He was the head of a beautiful family, that always treated me like family. Our Dad's did have a special friendship. I was disconnected from the family for many years. I decided I wanted to reconnect, so I began searching the internet. I knew he and Mrs. McCormick had retired to Hawaii so they were not hard to find. I wrote them a letter. About a week later, I got a wonderful telephone call. Yes, it was Mr. McCormick. I couldn't stop smiling. We had several more conversations which I will cherish.
