John Francis Graulty's Obituary
John Francis Graulty
Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and son, John Francis Graulty, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 22, 2022 at the age of 67.
John was born on February 12, 1955 in Manila, Philippines, the fourth child of six born to Josefina Dypiangco and William Joseph Graulty. He attended Ateneo de Manila Grade School (Class of 1968) and Ateneo de Manila High School (Class of 1972), finishing his senior year at International School Manila. At 17 years of age, he traveled across the Pacific on his own to earn his BA in Psychology at California State University, Los Angeles (Class of 1976).
In 1986, John was set up on a blind date with Corazon Valencia Ganal. It was a match made in Heaven and he married the love of his life on March 14, 1987 at St. Martha Catholic Church in La Puente, California, creating a family of three with Corazon and JoEllen Jean Graulty, his daughter from a previous marriage. They grew their family to include two additional children, Kathryn Ann Graulty and William Thomas Graulty, rounding out their family of five.
John started his career as a phone installer for Pacific Bell and remained with the company through its many iterations – Pacific Bell, SBC, and later AT&T. After moving up the ranks for 35 years, John retired from his final position as Associate Director for AT&T in the fall of 2013.
He spent retirement enjoying time with his grandchildren – Samson (born 2015), Rhiannon (born 2016), and Maxwell (born 2019). He took them on trips to his favorite place, Hawaii, and learned how to play children’s songs on the ukulele to entertain them. A generous spirit, John was always ready and willing to give to others. With the support of his wife and lifelong friends, the Blueboys of Ateneo de Manila, he funded and completed two medical missions to Barrio Bacsil in Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Additionally, John opened his home to family and friends regularly so everyone always had a place to stay when traveling. His sense of humor, love of a good story, and giving heart added something special to the lives of everyone he encountered.
John’s laughter, love, and generosity will forever be remembered by those that survive him including his wife, Corazon Valencia Graulty (née Ganal), his children, JoEllen Jean Graulty, Kathryn Ann Graulty, and William Thomas Graulty, his sons-in-law, Jacob Duane Parsley and Brian Zelle, his grandchildren, Samson Tafari Tewodros, Rhiannon Elizabeth Zelle, and Maxwell Duane Graulty-Parsley, his mother, Josefina D. Graulty (née Dypianco), and his siblings, Reynard David Graulty, Jeannette Marie Oostlander (née Graulty), and Thomas Richard Graulty.
He is preceded by his father, William Joseph Graulty, and his brothers, James Edward Graulty and Robert Joseph Graulty.
Memorial service will be on Saturday October 8, 2022, at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. Service will be from 9:30am. John’s ashes will be interred at Valley of the Temples in Kaneohe, Hawaii at 11:00am
