John Koli'i Kekauoha Sr.'s Obituary
John Koli‘i Kekauoha Sr., 78, of Waimanalo, Hawaii passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015. He was the youngest of seven children born to Joseph Molena Kekauoha Sr. and Mary Nahakuelua on November 16, 1936 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He attended Pohukaina Elementary School, Central Intermediate School, and then on to McKinley High School where he graduated in 1954. John was a armored car security, an employee for Hawaiian Cold Storage; then went to US Cold Storage which is now Unicold Corporation.
John grew up in Kakaako and later moved and lived in Waimanalo for the rest of his life. He was married to Winona Leina‘ala Smith. They married on December 28, 1957 in Waimanalo. He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness of Waimanalo.
John was a humble and patient man, a loyal and faithful husband, a kind and loving family man, a hard working provider and a all around fun-loving kanaka. The things that were important to him were his marriage of 57 years, seven children, 18 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and strolling on the beach. He was a true lover of ALL Hawaiian and 50’s music genre.
He is survived by wife, Winona Leina‘ala Smith Kekauoha; sons, John K. Kekauoha Jr., Keith G.K. Kekauoha, and Jarrett D.K. Kekauoha; daughters, Johnnielle “Lehua” Torres, Jalna A. Leina‘ala Lapez, Jaynus A.L. Kekauoha, and Sasha “Nicky” Kekauoha; brother, Wilfred “Kahale” Kekauoha; sisters, Maryhood Lopes and Alice “Lei” Mattos; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary Chapel; Celebration of Life Service to begin at 11:30 a.m.
