JOHN JOSEPH MATTER's Obituary
John Joseph Matter, 63, died unexpectedly in his sleep on September 11, 2024 in Waiʻanae, Hawaii.
He was born to Bernard “Barney” Waber and Madora “Betty” Matter on October 20, 1960 in Los Angeles, California. He would later call Vancouver, Washington and Henderson, Nevada home.
His children remember him as a kind, calm, wonderful, caring father who loved deeply and best showed his love through acts of service. He always did his best to provide and care for his family.
John sincerely cared for his family and always put his family before himself. He enjoyed making others laugh with his deadpan humor, playing and watching poker tournaments, watching UFC, playing with animals, and helping family in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard “Barney” Waber and Madora “Betty” Matter; his sister, Cynthia “Cyndi” (Waber) Matter; and his brother, Daniel “Danny” Matter.
He is survived by his sons Joseph Matter of Oregon and Austin Maki of Washington; former wife and friend Eileen Maki of Washington; siblings Judy and Sam Yee, Linda and Dr. Stephen Chenin, Deanna and Jeff Buttaccio, Debora Matter, all of Nevada, Bernard “Barney” Matter of Michigan, Lori Hall of Illinois, and Tamara “Tammy” Matter of Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews.
