JOHN ROBERT SR.'s Obituary
JOHN ROBERT "DING" CAVACO SR. 71, of Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 at Castle Medical Center. Born December 18, 1940 to Alice Mahoe and Darrell Cavaco. Graduate of Kailua High School and retired heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local 3. Retired long time employee of Delta Construction Company. John loved his machines and was well known and respected for his skill and expertise operating heavy equipment. John loved the ocean and was a long time canoe paddler for Kailua, Lanikai, and Kai-Oni canoe clubs and participated in the Molokai Hoe crossing 28 times with these clubs and 2 additional times solo by kayak. John was also an avid golfer and was a member of various golf clubs. John is survived by his wife of 52 years Kathi Cavaco, daughter Ann Gonsalves (Kimo), son John "John-boy" Cavaco Jr. (Melonie), daughter Corey Huihui (Black), Malia Peters (Tony), grandchildren Heather Ho, Keala Huihui-White, Kaiena Huihui, Keoni Cavaco, Lucas Gonsalves, Carli Huihui, Katheryne Huihui, Kimberly Cavaco, Noah Staggs, Keonaona Peters, great-grandchildren Kamo'i and Makua Huihui-White, Halena Ho, siblings Leota Souza (John), Alberta Sanders (James), Darrell "Nicky" Cavaco (Queenie), Elizabeth "Betty" Duarte (Donald), Charlie Wills, Rawlins Wills (Rhonda), Marnette Acfalle (James), Wayne Wills (Debbie), Louise Lee (Robert), May Laverne Poi, David Tagupa (Leona), brother-in-law Bill Brye (Anne), hanai son William Brown, dog Sweetie and cat Haupia, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and others who grew up with the family.Celebration of life to be held Saturday, March 24, 2012, 9:30am at Kailua Beach Park pavilion near the boat ramp. Scattering of ashes immediately following service.
