John Silva's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of John Silva, 95, of Kalihi, Hawaii, who passed away on October 1, 2014 peacefully at home with his loved ones surrounding him. He was born on August 21, 1919 in Holualoa, Kona, Hawai'i to Frank Silva and Minnie F. Pimento. He was the 10th child out of 17 children. He attended Holualoa Elementary School. He moved to Oahu where he began a career at Hawaiian Electric, then as a plumber for the Dept. of the Navy; where he retired in 1977 after 35 years of service. After retirement, he volunteered at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa's Church and worked as security for the Bishop Museum.
He married Isabel Sophie Santos on October 20, 1951 and considered that as one of the most important events in his life, along with the birth of his 8 children. He was a devout Catholic and prayed faithfully. He was a proud, strong, honest, family-oriented and spiritual man who loved gardening, talk radio, family time, slack key music, playing harmonica and guitar with family and friends.
John is survived by wife, Isabel S. Silva; children, John A. (Carrie Ann) Silva, Sandra S. (Ernest) Chang, Frank J. Silva, Thomas "Tom" E. Silva, Ann P. (Gregory) Piamonte, Henry P. Silva and Jean T. (John) Henson; daughter-in-law, Marylyn Silva; grandchildren, Harmony S.A. Silva, John D.K. Silva, Henry W.K. Silva, Frank J. “Franky” Silva Jr., Albert K. Chang (Malia), Justin F. Piamonte (Nalei), Maryann I. Silva, Sophie K. Chang, Shannon M. Piamonte, Ashley P. Silva, Jazmin T. Henson, Brandon A. Piamonte, Gregory A. Piamonte Jr., Jesika C. Henson; great-grandchildren, Taylor-Ann K. Silva-Perez, Francisco “Cisco” G. Perez IV, Leimomi I.M. Kauhako-Chang, Alexis Gabriel, Hayzen K. Ruiz-Piamonte; brother, Frank Silva; sisters, Joanna "Jennie" Jerusalem and Caroline "Carrie" Nobriga; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, Alfred “Fred” D. Silva.
Visitation for his funeral service will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park Chapel; service to begin at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. Casual attire.
