Johnny Fernandez Colon's Obituary
Johnny F. Colon, 82, of Aiea, Hawaii passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at his residence in Aiea. He was born on September 2, 1933 in Honokaa, Hawaii. He was the fifth of six children born to Fano Colon and Amelia Hernandez. He was a retired painter with the Navy Public Works Center “PWC” in Pearl Harbor.
He attended Aiea Intermediate School, after graduation he began his lifelong career as a painter with the Navy Public Works Center in Pearl Harbor also known as “PWC”.
Johnny was involved with Hawaii’s first Horseshoe Club and the Puerto Rican Heritage Society.
He was married to Shirley (Ortiz) Colon on January 9, 1954, he was a United Sates Army Veteran whose rank was a Private First Class and served in the Korean War. His favorite past times were playing Softball and Horseshoe. He enjoyed listening to Puerto Rican music.
He is survived by wife, Shirley J. Colon; sons, Johnny Colon Jr., and Jesse Colon; daughter, Janice Colon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Aiea; mass to begin at 11:00 a.m., with a burial to follow: 1:00 p.m. at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.
