Joseph Henry Hanson Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph Henry Hanson, Sr. was born on February 26, 1947 to the late Olaf Morris Hanson and Frances Perry Hanson in Honolulu, Hawaii where he lived all of his life. In 1965, he graduated from Roosevelt High School and later in 1976 earned an Associates Degree in General Studies Business Administration from Chaminade College.
In 1968, he married Belinda and spent the next 54 years together. They had two children, Jill Texeira and Joseph Hanson Jr., three grandchildren Chantelle Puletasi, Warren Puletasi, Joseph John Hanson and one great grandson Hokupa’a Puletasi Troxell. He had unconditional love for his family which was always his priority. He instilled in his children faith in God, a good work ethic, loyalty, honesty, integrity, wit, humor and a little sarcasm.
From a young age, Joseph Hanson Sr., was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 14. He earned Eagle Scout Rank with 3 Palms, the highest award attainable. Scouting was instrumental in the development of the man that he became, especially his troop leader Mr. Quentin Fo. As an adult he continued to be a member of the Boys Scouts of America for 35 years. He took on the role of Troop Leader and shared Scouting with his son. As an adult he earned the Training Award from B.S.A., the Ad Altare Dei Award, the Pelican Award from the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting and the distinguished Silver Beaver Award. The Silver Beaver is the highest award a council can give to a volunteer leader for unselfish, and effective service to the community.
After joining the Army National Guard of Hawaii, in 1968 he was activated to the U.S. Army. After his time of active military service, he worked for Terminal Transportation Inc. for twenty two years where he worked himself up from driver to Operations Manager. He was also a notary public, conducted driver safety courses, a driver license examiner for buses, and a dispatcher. Joseph enjoyed coin collecting, military memorabilia, computers, guns, archery, history and science fiction.
In 2015, he retired after being diagnosed with dementia. This put Joseph on a difficult path that was made a little lighter by the care he received from Belinda and visits from his children, grandchildren, great grandson and hanai niece Jessie Lum. Despite a very debilitating disease, Joseph knew his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandson and Jessie right up until the day he joined the ranks of the angels in heaven on October 26, 2022.
