Joseph Warren Stevens Jr. 's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of Joseph Warren Stevens, Jr., who passed away in Kailua on January 13, 2014. He was born on November 19, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph Warren Stevens and Olive May Brewer. Joseph was the only child. He attended Lyons Township School, North Western Military Academy and University of Arizona where he earned his Bachelors of Science. Upon graduation he began his career as a Marine Corps Officer Joseph retired in 1972 after serving 25 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946-1972 during the WWII and Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Major and received his Victory Medal, WWII, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and RVW Campaign Medal and many more. After retirement he was involved with Hawaii Job Corps for 10 years, Alu Like and Dash Pacific Corp. He married Kay Donna Cates on June 1, 1952 in Denver, Colorado.
Joseph was a member of the Kailua Community Church. He was involved in American Legion and Military order of Purple Heart. His most important events that happened in his life were the birth of his 5 children, 61st wedding anniversary and being a good Marine.
Joseph was a loyal, brave, honorable and responsible loving man whose favorite past times were gardening, fishing and traveling. He enjoyed the music of the 40’s, Souza Marches and Marine Corps Glee Club. He is survived by his wife, Kay Stevens; sons, Christopher, Daly and Joseph III Stevens; daughters, Stacy Bruhn and Holly Tam; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren
There will be a Committal Service on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00p.m.
