I say a fond and loving aloha to a dear friend and sister, someone who I spent a very special time in my life with. We lived and traveled together in our early 20's as hula dancers with a group, touring cities and towns in Canada for a year before ending the tour on the East Coast of the US. Kaelene was a warm and friendly person who taught me how to live Aloha and give Aloha no matter where you are or who you are with. We stayed in touch as our lives went their separate ways as we both married firemen...she made a special trip to Hawaii to share my wedding day. We both were such proud mothers of the sons we brought into this world. We often fondly shared our memories of our fun times together in letters, phone calls and the few occasions we visited each other. I last saw her in 2010, and we both looked forward to seeing each other again soon in Hawaii. I have lost a very dear friend who I will always remember. My very deepest sympathy, love and aloha goes out to Bob, Kellen and Ryan, as well as her siblings and family. Aloha!Our condolences to the Kaelene Puanani Ahu Rey family from The Valdez Ohana. Our hearts & prayers are with you in this difficult time. Please find comfort in knowing her spirit continues on in her family, her children, & her future generations.Kaelene touched my life; her spirit will remain in my heart forever. We made a lot of great memories together growing up & going to school. We shared our joys, sadness, excitement, & most of all, laughter. She made me laugh even through challenging times like when she got into an accident & had to have her jaw wired; sucking her chicken noodle soup through straws & mashing up the noodles & pieces of chicken when they got stuck. We used to help her find & collect big straws drive-ins. We would hang out at Windy's Drive-In (now Burger King) after school for milk shakes & root beer floats! The best moments were climbing up the mountain above Kapunahala by the water tank & have our "Calgon take me away" moments... we would sit & contemplate & enjoy the wonderful view of Kaneohe Bay.
