Katherine Leilani Cunningham's Obituary
Katherine Leilani Cunningham was born in Wahiawa on July 23, 1927 to Joseph P. and Katie L. Keopuhiwa. She attended St. Anthony School in Kalihi and went on to become a sales associate and elevator operator at Liberty House in Honolulu. In June of 1948 she married her partner for life Francis G. Cunningham Sr. In 1959 they realized their dream of owning their own home and moved their family to what was then the up and coming community of Pearl City. Shortly after settling into their new community, it became apparent that this new area was a bit quiet and as a way to have a playmate for 4 year old Francis Jr. Katherine began her child care career. "Aunty Katherine" as she was known to the dozens of children she cared for over the years. Her child care started as a means of companionship and went on to span 45 years. Katherine was widowed at the age of 54, but as a strong and independent woman, she continued her life with service to her family, friends, church and community. Katherine passed away on February 1, 2019 at the age of 91. She was and is much loved by her family Brenda Lee K. Waiau (Jeremiah-deceased) Francis G. Cunningham Jr. (Natlynn)
