Katherine "Katie" "Kathy" Paiva Opunui's Obituary
Katherine “Katie” “Kathy” Paiva Opunui, age 86, passed away in Honokaa, Hawai‘i on June 9, 2015. She was born on February 15, 1929 in Ahualoa, Hawai‘i to Antone Paiva and Julia Freitas. She was the tenth of twelve children.
Made her home in Kaneohe for over 50 years, she worked for and retired from Liberty House in Kailua, Oahu after 38 years. In 2004, after retirement she moved to Waikoloa, Hawai‘i.
Katherine is survived by her daughters, Antoinette Brucker and Leonora “Lani” Opunui; sisters, Minnie Reis and Lorraine (John) Steinbacher; brother, Albert (Vera) Paiva; grandson, James Brian (Rachel) Brucker; great-grandson, Simon Brucker; nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by brothers, Charles (Eva) Paiva, William (Alice) Paiva, George (Ida) Paiva, Albert Paiva, James Paiva; sisters, Elizabeth (Walter) Wong, Josephine (John) Andrade, and Julie (Ed) Burton.
Per Katie’s wishes there was no wake services. Graveside prayer service on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific – Punchbowl.
