Kevin Lyle Tien Yau Leong's Obituary
Mr. Kevin Lyle Tien Yau Leong, 47, of Honolulu, passed away at his residence on September 6, 2016.
Services honoring Kevin will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park, Kane‘ohe, O'ahu on Monday, October 3, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9:30am, with services beginning at 10:30am.
Kevin was born on July 1, 1969 and raised in Makawao, Maui by Henry & Lori Leong. He was the eldest of two children. He was a 1987 graduate of Maui high school, and studied music at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Kevin was a proud member of the Royal Hawaiian Band where he was a tubist for 27 years.
Kevin professionally recorded and taught music for over two decades. He has played with Gabe Baltazar, David Choy, Jimmy Borges and others, and recorded with Ho‘onu‘a, Mana‘o Company, Fiji and others. He was also a brass private tutor and band instructor at ‘Iolani School and Kamehameha Schools. in addition to playing with the Honolulu Symphony, Symphony Brass Ensemble, Honolulu Brass, Touch of Brass Quintet and the Weinnwald Bavarian Band.
Kevin enjoyed photography and fishing. He enjoyed music from Michael Jackson, Tower of Power, Frank Sinatra, Earth Wind and Fire, Chuck Mangione, Canadian Brass and Michael Buble
Kevin is survived by his parents, Henry and Lori Leong of Makawao; brother, Kurt Kurata (Suki); sister, Stacey Leong Mills (William); niece, Jackie Kurata; nephews, Sunny Kurata and William Kamana‘olana Mills Jr.; girlfriend, Wendy Higa; and his treasured cat, Kristal.
