I was stationed on the USS Davidson (FF-1045) from April 1987 until ship's decommissioning on December 8, 1988. Larry was a fellow Chief Petty Officer and the ship's Chief Master at Arms. He was a good man and a great shipmate and I'm am honored to call him friend. Rest in peace shipmate!
It was an honor serving as one of his signalman while onboard USS MARS AFS-1. Remember his favorite word being “brah”, also referring to us as his kids. He was the best chief on the boat!

Larry was a wonderful man... I remember swimming one day [ during our days on the USS Taylor] somewhere on the west shore I believe, and I got caught in a rip current and kept floating further out.... Next thing I know is there's Larry next to me telling me to relax, and showing me how to get back to shore !!! That's just one story of Larry, he was a well-liked person on the Taylor.. R.I,P. Larry
So sad to hear this news. I worked for Mr. Iokepa in 1977-78 while in the Navy. My daughter and grandchildren are there now and I mentioned him in conversation with her. She sent me this. Larry invited me to his house along with others and met his wonderful family then. Very fond memories and again, so sad to hear of his passing. Great guy!
