Stanley Ching
I'm Stanley Ching. My mother is an older sister to Bernice. Lawrence and Bernice were always friendly and generous. My most fond memories of them was when in the 1950's I spent a lot of time during the summer months with Lawrence and Bernice on their farm in Nanakuli. Back then it was a long ride in the back of their truck from Kapalama, where I lived, to Nanakuli along Kam Hwy and Farrington Hwy.
I remember the hard work that they put in to make their land into a farm. Among other crops they grew was watermelon. I remember once driving with Lawrence into town with watermelons loaded in the truck to a wholesaler and Lawrence getting 1.5 cents per pound for the watermelons.
Later, at their house in Waianae they would always welcome family to visit. Lawrence was very generous with giving us flowers and plants. In recent times, whenever Lawrence was able to attend family get-togethers, Lawrence would always bring plants for the family to take home.
Lawrence will always be remembered for his cheerful disposition and his generosity.
