Leo you were my high school ag teacher way back about 1954 or 1955. I raised two acres of corn for my required ag project. I finished school and joined the navy. Years later while on a flight crew I got a flight to ponape. The guys I was with headed for the local watering hole but I wasn't old enough to drink. so I went for a walk up a dirt road. A old jeep came down the road and stopped by me. I couldn't belive my eyrs . Here was Leo Migvar and his then wife. Leo drove me all around the island. He showed the old japanise air strip where they leveled the top of a mountain. Saw the old swimming hole where people did their laundry. Then he took me to his home for a home cooked dinner. My memories Of Leo have always been a wonderful memory.

Dear Leo!

I do not remember the day I first met you, I was only a year old, when you and your family came to Slovenia to find your relatives. When I was old enough, my mom showed me pictures of you guys explaining who you are. I remember, every year my mom wrote you christmas letter. I decided to learn english, so I can be able comunicate with you. I tried to write a few sentences at first, later on, writing to your family became my thing. I remember how excited I was when I saw you and Melanie for the first time, and then you came to vidit us again. I was finally able to visit you too, when I was 18. I have never travelled alone or ride a plane before. I stayed with you for two months...the best in my life. You were my rock, when I needed it, and my ouncle whoom I rather call third grandpa. You took me places, told me all those stories...and you heleped me pick my prom dress. I enjoyed your company very much. You touched the heart of everyone here from Slovenia, especially mine. I loved to visit you every time I came to Hawaii. I remeber the last day of my visit there two years ago. I should go to see football match, but decided to stay with you. You asked don’t you have a game today, and I have said I decided to stay with you. You were so touched by my decision, your eyes were full of tears. So we just stayed at home talking stories :). I wish I could see you again, I know I will meet you in heaven one day. You were an amazing man, with the heart bigger than universe. I will miss you so much! I am proud that we belong to the same family.

Aloha Leo! We are going to miss you so... When we first came to Hawaii your family helped us assimmilated to da-kine living... we grilled on weekends, golfed with bananas in our golf cars, took the Admiral's gig to Arizona Memorial, hiked up the Diamond"s head, planting prrak in backyard, routing kebuu on chicken fence wire, charted boats fishing Onaka, attended summer whites Navy ceremonies, even sailed on a Destroyer from Oahu to Big Island. As a true sailor once being a Gunner's Mate, you didn't get sea sick. LOL.. Your many betelnut trees and self-propelled lawn mower were the topics when we sit around with many brews and poke. Who's going to run the canoe club, the U.S. Navy? You said we are! Heck, it belongs to the young guns... Your sage advice have kept me well anchored with my family since then. Mahalo, Shipmate. Fair Winds and Following Seas... Lewis, Ilong, Esiuch, Shanti and Zach Ilek.
