Leonard John Lakanaria's Obituary
Leonard John Lakanaria, born May 30, 1952, in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, to Alice Doreen Lakanaria, passed away on March 28, 2026, in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi.
Leonard proudly served his country as a Combat Medic in the United States Army, where he was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division’s Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH). He was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, from 1978 to 1983. Following his military service, Leonard dedicated many years to working as a facilities maintenance worker for the City and County of Honolulu.
In 1985, Leonard married Linda Renee Hee, beginning a new chapter centered on family.
Leonard will be lovingly remembered for his strong will and unwavering determination. Whether he was teaching his children how to ride a bike or repairing a car, he approached every task with persistence and care, never stopping until the job was done. His resilience and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his sons, Chad Lovell; Kasey Hollinger and his wife Nikki; and Kulani Lakanaria and his wife Mona; his daughters, Jennifer Nakamura and Tiana Lakanaria; his stepchildren, Tahnee and Kiowa Gatewood; his siblings, Ricardo Garcia and his wife Ruby; Michael Garcia and his wife Brenda; Lionell Garcia; Doreen Chun; Michele Sims and her husband Joe; and Renee Garcia and her partner Kehua; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren.
Leonard’s memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
