Mabel Masaye Mashita's Obituary
Mabel Mashita, 89, of Kailua, HI passed away peacefully on April 27, 2011 in Lynnwood, WA. Born May 14, 1921 to Tsunesaburo and Masa Nii from Hiroshima, Japan and lived in Moiliili, Oahu. She married Katsumi Mashita on November 15, 1946 celebrating 53 years together. She was the food service manager for Beerman's Day Care in Kailua and later, Seagull Schools retiring in 2005 after 34 years of service. In her kitchen, she employed many workers giving them a second chance to succeed. Her influence helped them lead more productive lives. Seagull Schools created a Mabel Mashita Scholarship Fund in her honor. Cooking, catering, and making the best tempura were her passions. She enjoyed traveling worldwide, gardening, talking to people on her early morning walks on Kailua Beach, and New Year's Day family reunions.Mabel is preceded by her husband Katsumi Mashita. Survived by her children Caroline Kinue Wiedey (husband Keller), Lloyd Isao Mashita (wife Roni), and Eric Mamoru Mashita (wife Christine); grandchildren Melissa and Mark Mashita, Leah Wiedey, Martin and Nicholas Jones; great-grandchildren Lillian, Isabella, and Martin Jones, and Elias Scharf; siblings Clara Ritsue Tsumoto, Charles Chuji Nii, Shigeki Nii, Edith Tsuneko Kawashima, and Marion Fujiko Yamami. Preceded by her siblings Tamotsu Nii, Elsie Shizue Storm/Taketa, Ethel Mitsuko Watanabe, and Thomas Tsutomu Nii.Memorial Service will be on Friday, June 3, 2011 11:00 a.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary in Kaneohe. Casual Attire. No flowers please.
