Mabel J. Mendes' Obituary
Mabel Mendes, 98, of Kaneohe, Hawaii, passed away on March 25, 2015. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 7, 1916 to Antone Joseph and Mary Ferreira.
She attended Royal Elementary and Central Intermediate Schools.
She was married to John F. Mendes on May 12, 1945 and they lived in Kaneohe. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and was involved in Ana Malia Young Ladies Institute. She served as a civil engineer from 1940 to 1946, during the Second World War.
She was a Homemaker.
Her most important events in her life were the births of her children. She was a happy, civic minded, generous, loving and outspoken woman, who loved Hawaiian music and music from the Big Band Era.
She is survived by son, Kenneth (Sharon) Mendes; daughter, LaVerne (Edmond) Frandsen; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; Service to begin at 9:30 a.m., with burial to follow 11:00 a.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery. Family request casual attire please.
