Marcia Lagat Agpaoa's Obituary
Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary and Diamond Head Mortuary are saddened to announce the passing of Marcia Lagat Agpaoa. We are honored to be assisting the family during this difficult time.
Marciana Lagat Agpaoa, affectionately known as “Sianing,” was born on June 5, 1936 to Martina Coloma and Narciso Lagat in Naguilian, Isabela, Philippines. When she was 21 years old, Marcia married Elino Geronimo Dumlao who was living in Hilo, Hawai’i at the time. She immigrated to Hawai’i in 1956 to be with him. Together, they had three children Marlynn, William, and Corazon and eventually settled in Kalihi. Sadly, Marcia was widowed unexpectedly when Elino passed away in 1972. A year later, Marcia met Monico Felipe Agpaoa and they married just days prior to the birth of her second son, Roy. They would also have another son together, Ari. She worked at the Dole Cannery Factory, which was located on Nimitz Highway…home to the iconic pineapple water tower. When her children were young, Marcia also worked at a Waikiki hotel and at Kalihi Uka Elementary School as a lunch chaperone and cleaning classrooms. Later, she would work as a seamstress on Hart Street in Kalihi and eventually became a self-employed seamstress. You could always count on her professional sewing skills whether it was to repair your shirts or hem your pants. In retirement, she helped care for her grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed watching sports, especially football and basketball. She loved watching K-Dramas and “Walker, Texas
Ranger,” starring Chuck Norris. Her favorite pastime was playing Mahjong and she liked to recount the old days playing mahjong with family & friends from night into the early morning hours. She has touched many lives with her kindness, sense of humor and uninhibited laughter. On March 26, 2024, Marcia passed away peacefully at home with her family at her bedside. She was 87 years young and is survived by her sons William (Janel) Dumlao, Roy (Roda) Agpaoa, Ari (Kimberly) Agpaoa; daughters Marlynn Calvo and Corazon Dumlao; brother Manuel (Mila) Lagat; grandsons Logan, Carter, and Mason; granddaughters Leslie, Megan, Macy, Olivia, Kiana, Mandi, and Madisyn; great-grandsons Liam and Levi; great-granddaughter Lennox; and grand-fur babies Hugo, Oakley, and Nico. She will be greatly missed. We love you Mom…’til we meet again. Mahal kita.
