Margaret Hazel Funn Lui's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of Margaret Hazel Funn Lui
Margaret was born on October 22, 1920 in Honolulu, HI.
Margaret gained her angel wings on November 4, 2017.
Her parents (preceded in death) were William Ahina Funn & Mary Quintero Funn, and she was the 2nd born of 5 children.
On June 14th, 1941 Margaret married “The Handsome Hawaiian” Joseph Lui (preceded in death) at St. Theresa’s Church. They happily lived in Honolulu on the island of Oahu, until moving to Ewa Beach in 1991. Margaret was a proud graduate of Farrington High School. Later, she attended Technical Schooling, which led to a rewarding nursing career. After working for over 30 years, Margaret retired in 1977 from the Hawaii State Hospital in Kāneohe.
After retirement she raised her granddaughter Leilani Shirley Turajlich from her daughter Shirley Leilani Turajlich (preceded in death) for almost 40 years. Leilani was her caregiver in the later part of Margaret’s life up until the day of her passing.
In October 2012 Margaret got her fur baby/son, a golden retriever named Bruzah Lui. Bruzah was her companion whom she nurtured and loved so much and in turn Bruzah took care of her as well.
Margaret’s favorite hobbies were growing orchids, needlepoint, latch-hooked rugs, and cooking especially all those yummy desserts she made and shared with those who were close to her (i.e. neighbors and hanai ‘ohana).
Margaret’s favorite flowers were pakalana, puakenikeni, roses and carnations. She loved the color pink.
Margaret enjoyed her privacy, but never hesitated to share her caring and nurturing personality. Especially when she cared for her late husband Joseph, who became ill with Alzheimer’s. Margaret touched everyone’s life, whether it was a brief contact or with those who were in Margaret’s intimate circle.
Margaret is survived by her granddaughter Leilani Turajlich; her fur-baby/son Bruzah Lui; brother William Funn; daughter Marlene (Macky) Wong; another granddaughter Shirlene Wong; grandson Matthew Wong; great-grandson Macky Wong.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Visitation to begin at 10:00 a.m. with service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will commence at 1:00 p.m. over at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
