I am sorry to hear about Mimi’s passing. She was the graduate teaching assistant in my discussion section for Leon Litwack’s History class. She was passionate about History at a young age. She was smart and beautiful and I’m sorry to hear she passed. My best to her family. -Steve Canter
Mimi was a friend, many years ago when we were Berkeley undergrads together. Over the last few weeks I have found myself thinking of her I for the first time in many years. I was just going to reach out to her, over 40 years later, to tell her thanks for her wisdom and kindness and support. Too late.
So I say it here instead, to a void perhaps, maybe to her family, in which case I share memories of her at Cafe Renaissance, in our French classes together, of her humor and faith or confidence in me, frankly, when I was or felt small. She was an important and consequential person in my life. You have my condolences and caring from afar.
Mimi was an outstanding mentor and professor. Her tireless devotion to her students was unmatched in my entire educational experience. Her wealth of expertise never came off as pedantic, and it was a joy to be in her classroom. She inspired the best in all of us who were lucky enough to study under her. She had a profound influence on me both as a scholar and a role model for my own teaching career. My sincere condolences to Herb and Alex, the loves of her life. I'm so sorry for your loss.
