OBITUARY OF MARIA M. DOMINGO
Maria Manabat Domingo of Papaya, Nueva Ecija, Philippines passed away on February 21, 2024 at a blessed age of 87 years old. She dedicated her life as a loving daughter & sister, sweet, loyal and faithful wife of 49 years and the most caring mother and grandmother. Maria was born on July 26, 1936 in Papaya, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She was the second to the oldest of 8 children. She graduated from the Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1957. She was a licensed Civil Engineer starting her long career at the Armed Forces of the Philippines followed by many years at the Office of the City Engineer, Quezon City Metro Manila as an Estimator and Project Engineer working directly for the City Engineer. In 1979, Hawaii became her permanent new home joining her 5 children and husband Jaime. With her vast engineering experience, she worked at the Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer. Her major engineering accomplishments include being a key member of the project team which completed the Interstate H3 Freeway in 1994. The highlight of this engineering achievement was the completion of the Tetsuo Harano Tunnels which formally opened on Nov 23, 1994. These two tunnels combined are over 10,000 feet and serve as the link between the Oahu communities of Kaneohe and Halawa. Her generous contribution to the community came through as a valuable member of the Filipino American League of Engineers and Architects (FALEA) , the Sarrat Association of Hawaii and the Mapua Organization. In 2002, she and her husband were nominated for Parents of the Year. Maria’s extensive world wide travels included being at some of the world’s greatest wonders such as the Great Wall of China. Maria’s passing was a surprise to all who knew her because of her vibrant and happy personality, positive outlook, strong will to fight and win over her many health issues and her pure love of life and especially for her family. She was a gentle hearted woman whose kindness will never be forgotten. She treated everyone with unconditional love and respect. Her life’s legacy will live on through her five loving children: Elizabeth, Lily, Marilu, Romy and Arthur; sons in law: Stephen, Junior and Jerry; daughters in law: Monica and Vicky; twelve beautiful and handsome grandchildren: Ronica, Andrew, Karina, Jessica, Alyssa, Sarah, Nicole, Jaime Anthony, Alexis, Brandon, Katryna and Carina; her grandson in law, Luis and future grandson in law, Sian.
