Jaime Q. Gamatero
Auntie Pating, as we commonly called her is a close relative of mine. She is a first cousin of my father, the late Adriano Coloma Gamatero. Her mother Candida Gamatero is one of the sisters of my late grandfather Donato Gamatero. Coincidentally, she was married to a second cousin of my mother “Facunda Tacub Quibuyen”, Uncle Claudio Mendoza Quibuyen.
Since my childhood, even though her family lives in Manila, I’ve known auntie Pating and her family already. I remember one time; Uncle Claudio drove us to Caloocan using his 8 seater jeepney, the precursor of the modern design of Jeepney nowadays. And so, during my College days in Manila, we frequently visited them in Alegria Street, a five minutes’ walk from Lardizabal house of my late uncle Angel Tacub Quibuyen.
Her family together with some of her siblings, Uncle Clemente, Andres, Jose, Ben and Auntie Gonding are known to me. Every time my family went to Pasuc, when my father was still with us, we usually drop at their ancestral house in Mabusag, the gateway to Pasuc along the national highway.
It is regrettable that, since her family left for Hawaii in the 70’s I don’t have a chance to meet her and the family anymore.
At this moment, it’s really heartbreaking to learn the death of Auntie Pating and I would like to express our sympathy and condolences to the family and let you know that our thoughts are with you! May you rest in peace auntie!!!
