Marmin Pumaras Martin Jr.'s Obituary
Marmin P. Martin Jr., fondly known to family and friends as “Junyah,” passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018, at the age of 46. He was born on March 5, 1972, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Marmin Pumaras Martin, Sr. and Marcelina (Bagay) Martin. He was the oldest of four children.
Junyah was a class of 1990 graduate of Waipahu High School. After high school, he joined the workforce by becoming a termite fumigator and later a foreman for Island Termite & Pest Control, Inc., which was later bought out by Terminix. He worked there for over 15 years, until he moved on to Kama’aina Termite & Pest Control, Inc. for a few more years. Wanting to learn a new trade, he then joined the Hawaii Masons Union BAC Local 1, as a cement finisher apprentice and worked for Albert C. Kobayashi, Inc., until he became a journeyman. He continued working there until he was forced to stop due to his illness.
Junyah enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball. He played basketball in a couple of men’s leagues after high school. Then when his daughter started playing, he became one of her biggest fans. He loved watching her play and would yell in the stands, “That’s my girl!”
Junyah will be remembered for his love of kids, whether it’s playing with his daughter (when she was younger) to playing with his nieces and nephews. He’d always have candies for them.
Junyah is survived by his daughter, Maegen (20); parents, Marmin Pumaras Martin Sr., and Marcelina Bagay Martin; sisters, Jackie (Jason) Libarios and Melanie (Edward) Ancheta; brother, Harold (Jennifer) Martin. He is also survived by his five nieces, seven nephews, one grandniece and one grandnephew.
Celebration of life and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at St. Philomena Catholic Church; visitation from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., family service to begin at 10:00 a.m., Mass at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow 12:30 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
