Mathilda Makakoa Adolpho's Obituary
Mathilda Makakoa Adolpho, 72, a homemaker and former cook and cafeteria worker for the State Department of Education at Waiahole Elementary School, passed away on August 27, 2016 at her residence in Kalamaula, Molokai. She was born on Oahu on April 10, 1926, Territory of Hawaii, to parents Charles U. Aukai and Julia Joseph Kahalehoe Aukai, and was the oldest of six children. She attended Waiahole Elementary School, graduated from McKinley High School in 1967 and the St. Francis Nurse's Aid Program in 1971. She lived in Kaneohe from 1926-1977 and moved to Kalamaula in 1977 where she resided until her passing. On February 25, 1945, she married Thomas Patrick Adolpho at Our Lady of the Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She was a devoted Catholic and attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel, serving as a catechism teacher for many years, until she and her husband moved to Kalamaula in 1977. She was active for many years with the University Extension Program, and devoted her time, talents and aloha to the Kupuna Program on Molokai and was always happy to do her best in every endeavor. She loved her mo'opuna and considered them as the most important events in her life. Mathilda's favorite hobbies were sewing, gardening, reading and beating everyone at Scrabble. Her favorite song was "Kanaka Wai Wai."
She is survived by her sons, Warren M. (Lehua Kelii) Adolpho and Patrick H. (Winnie) Adolpho; daughters, Aloma A. Eustaquio, Rita M. (Jim) Jaeger and Keala M. (Stan) Penrose; sisters, Juliette K. Aukai, Jeanette L. Kahalehoe, Louise H. Paleka and Lorraine U. Meyer; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Mathilda will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary (located at 45-425 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe, Hawaii 96744); visitation from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m.; service to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Additional service will continue on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; visitation from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.; service to begin a 11:30; burial to follow 1:00 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
