Maude Ipolani Kelley's Obituary
Maude Ipolani Kelley, better known as “Ipo”, was born in Honolulu Hawaii on January 24, 1942, and passed away at 78 on September 7, 2020 in Honolulu. She is survived by her sisters Sophie “Chubby” Adversalo, Gwendolyn “Honeypal” Wong, Miriam “Sweetie” Ueno, and Edna “Darling” Kelley. She never married or had children of her own, but she is survived by her nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews that she helped to raise. Last but not least, she is also survived by her beloved dog, Willow.
Towards the end of her life she suffered from dementia which caused her to become angry and aggressive at times. This is not who she was. Ipo was a kind, gentle, caring, and sensitive soul. She loved to spend time with family, especially the kids who she’d spoil when she could. She absolutely loved to talk story with anyone, even strangers that passed by as she sat outside during the day. She liked to tell stories, and sometimes you’d get sucked into her stories believing them to be true, only to find out it was a plot from one of her favorite TV shows. This is the Ipo we need to remember, the kind, gentle, caring, sensitive soul with the crazy stories.
She was the first born to Samuel and Edna Kelley, or as we know them “Nana” and “Papa”, and she is the first to be with them once again. We love you. We miss you. Your journey is over, and now it’s time for you to rest in peace, and rest in love Ipo. You will forever be in our hearts.
