Melita Romero Drey's Obituary
Melita Drey of Junction City, Kansas passed away October 8, 2022, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS at the age of 68 after a lengthy battle with leukemia.
Melita was born in Olongapo City, Philippines on May 31, 1954 the daughter of Benito and Candida Romero.
Melita immigrated to Hawaii in September 1973 where she met future husband Robert Drey, stationed at Schofield Barracks. They were married on December 29, 1975 at the Judiciary Building in Honolulu, Hawaii followed with a later ceremony in the Catholic Church.
To this union were born three children Robert, Jennifer, and Michael.
Melita came from a large family of 11 brothers and sisters. Melita wanted a big family of her own with 12 children but could only have three. Thru her children and grandchildren was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of a big family.
While rising her family Melita also spent many years working at Denny’s restaurant in Junction City being a friend and mother to all she came into contact with. Gardening was a special lifelong hobby for Melita.
Growing and selling her vegetables at farmers market in Junction City. Always giving away more than she would sell and love to socialize with everyone.
Traveling and visiting was something Melita always loved and cherished. Whenever she got a moment, she was visiting her brothers and sisters cherishing every minute.
Her Catholic faith played a very large and important part of her life shaping her into the loving, compassionate, patient, fun-loving wife, sister, grandmother, and mother that she was.
Melita is survived by husband Robert Drey and son Michael Drey of the home. Son Robert Drey(Johanna) of Junction City, Ks Jennifer Weis (JD) of Lindsborg, KS.
Grandchildren; Joel, Chris, Robert, Jaida, Jaron, Jordyn, Javen, Annlisa and Alex.
Siblings; Amy, Beth, Vangie, Oscar, Gloria, Romeo, Merlyn, and Benny.
Melita was preceded in death by her parents Bentio and Candida; bothers Willie, Cesar and sister Lydia.
Memorial Mass will be held November 12, 2022, at St Xavier Catholic Church Junction City, KS at 1 O’clock followed by funeral service on November 26, 2022 at Valley of the Temples, Kaneohe, Hawaii.
Public viewing from 10:30 am – 11:00 am with service at 11:00 am followed by burial at 1:00 pm.
