With joyful hearts, we celebrate the life of Mercedes Mateo Pascua, a beacon of kindness and humility whose vibrant spirit touched all who knew her. Born on May 4th, 1935, in the charming town of Pahala, Ka'u, Hawaii, Mercedes embraced life with an infectious enthusiasm and a genuine love for the outdoors.
An adventurous soul, she found bliss in nature, delighting in outdoor activities and nurturing her garden with a true green thumb. Her passion for gardening transformed her surroundings into a flourishing oasis, reflecting the care and love she poured into every plant. Mercedes shared this joy with her family, creating cherished memories filled with laughter and the beauty of nature.
Her hardworking and responsible nature shone brightly during her time as a Food Prep and Cook at Jumbo's Drive Inn, where she brought warmth and dedication to every dish she prepared. Colleagues and patrons alike were touched by her humble demeanor and supportive spirit.
Family was the heart of Mercedes's world. She especially adored her grandchildren, with whom she shared countless joyful moments. Her home was a haven of love, where everyone felt welcomed and cherished.
Mercedes is survived by her sons Alfred, Reynald, William; Daughter,Linda Pascua, her sister Rose Galima, and her brother Primo Mateo. Her kind and supportive nature left an indelible mark on her loved ones, and her legacy continues through the lives she touched.
On January 19th, 2025, Mercedes passed away in Honolulu, leaving behind a legacy of love and joy. Her life was a radiant example of living with humility, hard work, and a childlike wonder that inspired all around her.
As we remember Mercedes, let us celebrate her vibrant spirit by embracing life's simple pleasures and nurturing the love she so generously shared. May her memory continue to inspire us to live with kindness and an open heart.
Funeral service to take place on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 10am-2pm at Valley of the Temples Mortuary-Trousdale Chapel. Burial to follow at 2pm.
