Celebrating the life of Monalou (Butler) Calistro, 74, Feb 14, 1939 - Jan 17, 2014
Monalou passed Friday night, Jan 17, 2014 with her husband and girls at her side. Monalou Butler was born in Osceola Mills, Pa. the youngest of seven children born to Isaac Myron & Robie (Woomer) Butler, she is survived by the eldest, Rachel (Butler) Skiles. Monalou was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Marvin and Robert; and three sisters, Ethel J (Butler) Crain, Dora J (Butler) Ogden and Audrey (Butler). Monalou graduated from Clearfield High School in 1957 where she then married Roger Weston Adam in 1959, also of Clearfield, Pa. There were three daughters born of the marriage, Pamela Suzann (Adam) Barber, Ann Marie Adam-Clark & Julia Leann (Adam) Askari. Monalou belonged to Chinklacamoose, she was a member of N.O.N. Ladies Club, she also belonged to a theatre group where she enjoyed painting and dressing sets, also making costumes. She belonged to a square dancing and card club as well. Monalou loved collecting and refurbishing antiques, making ceramics and knitting. She worked at Clearfield Hospital as a switchboard operator and Brody's Department Store. Monalou moved to Ca. in 1969 with her daughters, living for many years in Canoga Park where she met her good friend, Mary "June" Thompson. Monalou worked at Litton Industries for years. She spent much of her life as a home maker, volunteering at her daughter's schools, she was a Girl Scout leader for several years and continued to collect and refurbish antiques. Monalou moved to Hi. in 1986 where she became a book keeper in a doctor's office and then worked for the State of Hi. in Agriculture at the Honolulu Airport. She met, then later married Douglas Calistro (surviving spouse) on Apr 28, 1990. She gained five step-children of that marriage; Diane, Dawna, Elaine, David and Michael and a Dachshund named Peanut . Monalou volunteered for the Outdoor Circle and very much enjoyed the volunteer work she did for the Waialua Public Library. She took pride and found it relaxing to care for the graves in the neighborhood Pu'Uiki Cemetary in Waialua by assisting with the reconstruction of gravestones from the late 1800's, pulling weeds and planting flowers. She also enjoyed working on the play Menopause with a theatre group by painting and dressing sets, also making costumes. Monalou didn't believe in idle hands, she was always doing something, she loved to craft, garden and sew. She took quilting classes and made many beautiful quilts. Monalou had seven grandchildren; Corinne M, Joshua A, Aubrey M, Arlena "Monique", Chase JL, Justin H, and Jack D. Five step-grandchildren; Anthony, Lindsey, Katie, Douglas and Mylee. Seven great grandchildren; Isaiah A, Corbin T, Keith A, Kaylie M, Ricky K, Javon A and Illiana M. She had many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Monalou had many good friends, they kept in touch with each other regardless of the years and miles between them. She was loved by many and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
