Myron Shozo Nihei's Obituary
We celebrate the life of Myron Shozo Nihei. He is the second child born of Ted Tadao Nihei and Blanche Rikiyo Teramae Nihei in Honolulu on January 24, 1944.
Myron attended Lunalilo Elementary, Washington Intermediate and graduated from Kaimuki High School in 1962.
Immediately after graduation, he worked in construction then moved to San Francisco to attend a Technical Trade School. When he returned to Honolulu he not only enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, but also began his twenty-five year career for the City & County of Honolulu; first working in Data Systems; then moving on to the Honolulu Police Evidence Room; and lastly the Peoples Open Market. After his retirement from the City & County he sought part-time work at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and at Waialae Country Club, where he was close to a sport he thoroughly enjoyed playing. Retirement also brought Myron the time, opportunity and gratification to become a volunteer at the New Hope Kapolei Christian Church.
Forty plus years ago, after he started working for the City & County, Myron met Corlis, the love of his life. On July 26, 1978, Myron married Corlis his soul mate and best friend. Myron dearly and truly loved Corlis; he was her greatest champion and protector. They chose to reside and raise their family in Pearl City.
Myron would be the first to tell you that his most important life events, in chronological order, were his marriage to Corlis, the birth of their sons Justin and David followed by their grandchildren. At the end of 1999, he dedicated his life to Jesus and was baptized into the Church.
One of Myron’s favorite scriptures is “He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 This helped him on his faith-filled voyage as he battled pulmonary fibrosis. His favorite song, “I Love You Lord”, could be heard throughout the household as he raised his voice to Jesus.
We know that Myron has realized his goal of residing with Jesus in heaven. Although we miss his presence in our lives, we are extremely happy for Myron for we know that our Lord has said to him “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21.
Myron was and remains a blessing to so many people. He touched family and friends with his caring, good-natured heart and his humor. He was a gentle man and a gentleman. He was an example of a Godly man who loved Jesus and those around him. He was truly grateful for every moment he could spend with his beloved Corlis, family and friends.
Myron, go with the Grace of God. We celebrate you with joy and we are thankful for the precious time we had with you. We will grieve but, as we promised you, we shall not grieve too long. We will lovingly remember you. Until we meet again, Myron “Aloha au ia o’e”.
Myron is survived by his loving wife, Corlis S. L. Nihei; sons, Justin (Erin) Nihei and David ((Liza) Nihei; grandchildren, Micah, Dayton, Kaila and Josiah; brother, George Nihei; and sister, Bertha McIntyre.
