Norma Wailani Young's Obituary
Norma Wailani Young, 67, of Kaneohe, Hawaii passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Oahu. She was the oldest of six children born to Joseph Basques and Marcella Ingano in Lahaina, Maui on January 3, 1949. She was a licensed practical nurse employed with the Queen’s Physician’s Office Building III.
She attended Farrington High School and then furthered her education at Kapiolani Community College.
After graduation she began her career as a candy striper at St. Francis Hospital and received her LPN license. She then moved on working at different doctor’s offices at the Castle Professional Building and the Queen’s Physicians Buildings.
She lived in Lahaina, Maui; Honolulu and Kaneohe on the island of Oahu.
She was married to Kerry Young on June 23, 1973 at Kawaiahao Church in Honolulu.
She was a member of Word of Life and also involved with the Orchid Association.
She loved to travel to Las Vegas.
The important events in Norma’s life was the birth of her grandson and seeing her daughter, Gaylyn’s marriage.
She enjoyed the song by Stevie Wonder; I Just Called to Say I Love You.
She was a loving, helpful and caring woman who will be truly missed by all her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Kerry Young; son, Blake Young; daughter, Gaylyn Laikona; brothers, Joseph Basques and Jensen Basques; sisters, Marcella Nelson and Hope Anderson; one grandchild.
Services for Mrs. Young will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary (located at 45-425 Kamehameha Highway Kaneohe, Hawaii) visitation from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.; service to begin at 11:30 a.m. with burial to follow 2:00 p.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery Committal Shelter.
