Norm was my teacher for Atelier and portrait painting. He was tough, but taught me how to push through limits. I would think I was done with a piece, and he would say, "No, you just started." He was a good man and will be missed.

Norm was truly a special friend and amazing person. I loved him more than a lot of people. He was weird and unique and didnt care if i was weird and unique and he taught me how to draw when I deffinitely didnt know how to draw. And told me to primal scream when I really felt like I couldn't draw and pushed me to do better. I will miss him, I am sad I didnt get to say good bye to him. Dont forget to tell the people you love that you love them before it is too late. I love you Norm.
When I was a student at WCC, I hadn't made any friends yet and I was sitting alone at lunch break hiding in a corner so no one could see I was alone. He turned the corner and said "hey this is my hiding place." He was my first friend I made at college we spent years hiding together and sharing the stories of our lives.
Norman was a student, a colleague and a friend. I taught him as an undergrad and recognizing his talents, I encourages him to study art. After he received his MFA from UH Manoa, we taught together at WCC, including 11 years of the Atelier Hawaii. He was a good friend and I will miss him. -Snowden Hodges
I liked Norman a lot - we often hung out together when smoking on campus was allowed (WCC). As well as being a talented artist, he was also a talented musician. He had a wicked sense of humor, and his love for teaching and his students ran deep. He taught me how to draw an apple, how to look at the outside angles of Palanikila, and how to make a rope bracelet ❤️
