Quirino Bonilla Bumanglag's Obituary
Quirino Bonilla Bumanglag, 86, of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away on February 1, 2017. Quirino is the eldest of 13 children born to Cecilia (Bonilla) and Bonifacio Gonzales Bumanglag in Barangay 20, San Pablo, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on March 26, 1930.
Quirino attended Bingao Elementary School in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte.
Quirino was married to Jesusa Coloma Macatumbas on April 28, 1955 at the San Nicolas Catholic Church.
Quirino was a retired dishwasher for the Wisteria Restaurant. After 10 years of dedicated service with the Wisteria Restaurant, Quirino retired in 2003.
A very important event in Quirino’s life was coming to Hawaii on January 18, 1993 where he settled in and made his life with his family.
Quirino was a very happy, kind, strong, energetic and hardworking man. He enjoyed going to the beach, riding the bus, going around the island and gallivanting, riding his bike in the Philippines, talking stories, going to town with his friends, enjoyed listening to the radio and listening to Filipino songs.
Quirino will be remembered for the following quotes: “Saan ka agkapuy-kapuy Apok,” “Aglalaeng kayo,” “Agsingsingpet kayo,” and “Saan kayo nga aglokoloko.”
Quirino is survived by his loving wife, Jesusa M. Bumanglag; children, Tomas (Maria Eufemia) Bumanglag, Teresita (Ricarte) Arzaga, Antonina (Jimmy) Delos Santos, Gabriel (Adela) Bumanglag, Corazon (Ronald) Laeno, and Basilio (Emely) Bumanglag; 10 grandchildren, Charry Bumanglag (Mark) Putt, Suerte Bumanglag, Mario Bumanglag, Terry Arzaga, Irene Arzaga, Eric Arzaga, Jenelyn (Jarrod) Barton, Marie Claire Bumanglag, Mark Anthony Bumanglag and Annika Laeno;
two great-grandchildren, Jaryn Barton and Jeleyna Barton; siblings, Fidela Bumanglag Arzaga, Silveriana Bumanglag (Ponciano) Fiesta Gavino Bonilla Bumanglag (Isabel Macatumbas), Lynda Bumanglag (Antonino) Salvador, Luciano Bonilla (Lei) Bumanglag, Christino Bonilla (Anastacia) Bumanglag, and Manuel Bonilla (Lynda) Bumanglag and Rogelio Bonilla (Loreta) Bumanglag.
Quirino is preceded in death by his siblings, Ines Bumanglag Macatumbas, Rita Bumanglag Inovero, Emilio Bumanglag and Julio Bumanglag; brother-in-laws, Serafin Arzaga, Isabelo Macatumbas and Apolinario Inovero.
Celebration of life service for Quirino will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; visitation from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m., family service to begin at 7:00 p.m., with wake service to follow.
Funeral service to be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; visitation from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.; Mass to begin at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow 12:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
