Regan John Malina's Obituary
Regan John Malina, 54 of Honolulu passed away on December 30, 2023 at his care home in Honolulu. He was born on April 23, 1969 in Honolulu to his parents (deceased), Raymond Malina and Laila Ann Jones Chong Malina.
Regan was primarily raised in Palolo Valley by his loving mother Laila and his loving grandparents Edward and Ruth Chong. As a student at Anuenue Elementary School, Regan had displayed exceptional talent in painting, and received a scholarship for art classes with the Honolulu Academy of Arts. As a youngster, Regan enjoyed spending summers in Maui with his family. During high school, Regan was a ROTC student at Kaimuki High and also attended a Christian youth group at Honolulu Assembly of God.
Following graduation from Kaimuki High, Regan served in the U.S. Navy during 1987-1991 with honorable service as an E-4 Petty Officer 3rd class. Regan served during Operation Desert Storm and was stationed on the USS Valley Forge. Regan was awarded decorations for 2nd Sea Service Deployment; Southwest Asia Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Battle "E" Ribbon; and 1st Good Conduct Award.
Regan was humble, kind and hardworking, and he had a strong faith in God. His dedicated caregivers have shared that although Regan battled health issues, he was helpful and happy to assist others around him whenever he could.
Regan was a loving brother, and is survived by his siblings Ryan Malina, Lori Ann Malina-Lovell, and Rodd Malina. Regan is also survived by his extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial inurnment service to take place on May 3, 2024 at 10:30am, with military honors, "where heroes rest" at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl). Family and friends are welcome to attend.
