Atud, Remedios' Obituary
Remedios “Remy” Papio Atud was born on January 28th 1946 in Pangasinan, Philippines. She immigrated to Hawaii in 1971 with her husband Florante Atud and children.
She was always a hardworking woman, juggling multiple jobs to support her family. Remy was most prideful in her work as a housekeeper at Hyatt Regency Waikiki. Many admired her friendly personality and contagious smile. At home, she loved to clean and sew, but most of all her passion was cooking! She specialized in cooking Filipino food and desserts. She cooked the best dineguan! And for dessert was her cassava bibingka and biko. So ono! Her recipes weren’t just food—they were cherished acts of love that brought our family together and filled our hearts.
Remy’s favorite time of the year was during the holiday season because she was always so happy to have her whole family gathered together and showed us her giving spirit. She taught us, “It’s always better to give than to receive.” She poured her heart into her family and friends, always making sure we felt loved, cherished, and cared for.
Remy was the type of person who would give her shirt off her back to help someone in need. She had a generous heart and always thought about others including us in Hawaii, mainland family and Philippines family. Although, her generosity was the kind that wasn’t limited to people she knew. Remy would even help strangers in need. One day, on her way to work she gave her lunch away to a famished homeless man without thinking twice about not being able to have lunch of her own. She ended up with more tips than usual that day and we believe her kind act was recognized. This random act of kindness will always remind us to also be kind and pay it forward.
Remy was a woman of grace, elegance, and strength. Despite going through several health conditions throughout her later years, she would still smile through the pain. Her smile could light up a room, and her eyes twinkled with love and kindness. She loved unconditionally, offering her unwavering support and encouragement no matter the circumstances. Her hugs felt like the safest place in the world, and her words of wisdom guided us through life’s most challenging moments. Family and God was her number one driving force in her life. One of the most important lessons she taught us was to always have God in our hearts and to love our family. We are taught this from the love she’s shown through us throughout our life. Her love was the kind that left a lasting imprint on our souls—a love that will continue to guide and inspire us every day. (1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us)
She was more than just a grandmother to us—she was our Mama, our foundation, our light, and the heart of our family. Her beauty radiated from within, touching everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
On the morning of December 27th 2024, around 3:40am, Heaven gained another angel. Mama Remy was 78 years old when she passed. She was grateful to be surrounded by all of her children and their families one last time before she drew her last breath. (Philipians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.)
She was survived by our late Grandfather Florante Atud. They had seven children (Corazon, Fernando, Florante Jr.(Boyet), Florem, Marlon, Leilani and the late Margie) 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild (on the way)
Services for our beloved Remy will be held at Valley of the Temples.
