Richard Dale Martin's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of Richard Dale Martin, age 87, of Honolulu, Hawaii...
He was born in Madera, California on February 15, 1932 and was the third child born to Elmer Jack and Elsie May (Brown) Martin.
In his late teens, he was drafted by the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged while stationed on Oahu; where he remained and made his home in Hawaii, with love for his family.
He raised a daughter, Kathi Allen, with his late wife, Patricia.
He began his career at Long's Drugs until he retired as a store manager.
While on a business trip in San Francisco, he lost his heart there and met the love of his life, Shih-Jen "Susan" Liang. They shortly married in Hawaii and together raised three sons, Richard, Brian and Reginald, along with a few neighborhood strays in Kaneohe.
He was an active member of the community introducing programs such as: "Officer Honolulu" and "No Hope in Dope." He brightened Kaneohe Bay with spear-heading many community initiatives including: Lights Up Kaneohe and holiday parades. He was the recipient of several State-sponsored awards including "Outstanding Citizen."
In his twilight years remaining, he spent with his family and grandchildren surrounding him. He peacefully rested on the morning of June 18, 2019 in the embrace of his "Number One."
He is survived by wife, Susan; three sons, Richard Michael (Kandi) Martin, Brian (Christina) Martin and Reginald "Reggie" (Maile) Martin; two daughters, Kathy and May; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Bonnie) Martin and Harold (Judy) Martin.
A celebration of life and memorial service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Diamond Head Mortuary; visitation from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., with service to begin at 8:00 p.m. An internment service will be held 11:00 a.m. at Valley of Temples Memorial Park in Kaneohe on Saturday, July 20, 2019.
