Richard Moniz's Obituary
Richard Moniz, 91, of Kailua, Oahu, passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2020.
Born in Hali'imaile in Makawao County, Maui, on August 20, 1928 to Frank and Mary Moniz and raised in Spreckelsville, Maui, with his five siblings, George, Louie, Ida, Nona and Clarence.
He proudly enlisted in the U. S. Military service (Army) and reenlisted seven times. He earned a Purple Heart for his bravery in the Korena and Vietnam Wars, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Richard retired from the Army in 1969.
He served in the Military police in Hawaii, Ft. Shafter, HASP (Hawaii Armed Service Police), Korea, Presidi'o of San Francisco, Okinawa, McCord Air Force Base, Tacoma, Ft. Lawton, Seattle, Washington and with the 23rd MP company in Vietnam.
Richard was employed with Hawaii Department of Defense at the State Capitol and the Hawaii State Attorney's General office as a law enforcement officer from December 1969 and until his retirement in September of 1984, at the age of 56. He was also a member of VFW.(Post No. 10154).
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rebecca; siblings, George, Louie, Ida and Nona.
Richard is lovingly survived by his daughters, Marilyn M. Moniz, Joann P. Martin, Chickadee L. Moniz (son-in-law, Eric Katter) and Stephanie H. Moniz; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Clarence Moniz.
