Parubrub, Rosario's Obituary
Our Nana, Rosario "Charing" (Dela Cruz) Parubrub passed away peacefully on January 10th, 2025, at home in Ewa Beach, Hawaii after her four-year journey living with end-stage renal failure. She was 93 years old.
Born on October 2, 1931, in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Nanas greatest joy and achievement was her family, whom she always prioritized. she began studying nursing in college when she fell in love with her husband of 50 years, Quirino Parubrub (who is now deceased). With the help of her parents, Nana and Quirino built a life together in Hawaii, along with her two sons, Danilo and Orlino. Later in life, they decided to adopt Joycelene from Orlino and his wife Helen.
While living in Honolulu, Rosario worked as a housekeeper at the Prince Kuhio Hotel before retiring to fully embrace her role as a homemaker. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nana Charing ensured that her grandchildren felt loved and supported in every way she could, whether by preparing her famous pinakbet or ironing their school uniforms. she took special joy in making sure her family was well-fed.
In her free time, Rosario enjoyed many aspects in life. She enjoyed gardening and harvesting her own vegetables to cook, sewing her granddaughter's hula skirts for their performances, and watching Korean dramas on full volume late at night.
Nana instilled in her grandchildren the values of harmony and unconditional love. She often recounted stories of her own childhood fights with her siblings, expressing her desire for her family to remain united.
In her later years, she spent much of her time with her son, Orlino, and daughter-in-law, Helen, but especially with Joy, who was her main caregiver. Joy accompanied her to medical appointments, dialysis visits, and they would often dance in the kitchen to keep Nana in good spirits. In her final months, Nanas greatest wish was to see her only daughter, Joy, walk down the aisle and marry the man of her dreams.
Despite her declining health, Rosario maintained her kindness, grace, love for her family and gratitude for her long life. Even during her toughest times, she made it a point to express her love for her family and to remind them to cherish one another. Although she is no longer with us, Rosario's legacy lives on through the cherished memories of a life well lived.
