Rose Christine Lum's Obituary
Rose Christine (Lapera) Lum, 88, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on June 17, 2015. She was born on January 23, 1927 in Honolulu, Hawaii and was the sixth child of nine children born to Alberto and Marie Lapera. She was a homemaker.
Rose attended Waimanalo Elementary and Benjamin Parker School. She traveled all over the world. She was married to her husband, CWO W-4 Nick Lum on March 23, 1946 at Fort Shafter Chapel Hall.
Rose quit school during the war to go to work and received her high school diploma sometime in the 1990’s. She was a beautiful singer and was loved by her family and friends.
Some of the important events of Rose’s life was being a May Day Queen at Ben Parker School, offered a recording contract while in New York and becoming a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved doing handiwork of all kinds, building things such as spice cabinets, etc. She also found a love for planting, pruning trees, had her own anthurium garden.
Rose enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, golfing, singing, and pets of all kinds. Her favorite singer was Dennis Pavao.
She is survived by daughters, Christine Lum, Loreen (Sam) Okami, Nickie (Raymond) Dahlke, and Ariana Lum; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Martin Lapera of Walkerville, MD, Manuel Lapera of Ewa Beach, HI, and Frank Lapera of Portland, OR.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015; service to begin at 11:00 a.m., with inurnment to follow 1:00 p.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.
