Sharon and Bill have both been in our thoughts these last few months. Memories flood my mind as I look back over the 20 some years we’ve known them.
In particular, I recall their generosity in inviting us to stay in their beautiful home in Kailua in 2016 when they took a trip to India. Not only were we able to stay there but my brother and his wife from Mumbai, who came to visit, stayed there too. And on top of all that, Sharon generously provided us her home as the venue for our 50th wedding anniversary party. With Casey’s help as usual, we had a wonderful time. We shall always be grateful to all the Holadays for that. There are many such memories of her thoughtfulness and kindness, her strength and courage that I shall draw on as I need as time goes on. We were so happy they came to visit us in Westport in 2019 during their trip to New York that year. Sharon’s bravery was remarkable - she took Metro North from Grand Central to Westport using her motorized scooter. We loved it. That was the last time we saw her, happy, enthusiastic and full of life. May she find happiness and peace wherever she is. Farewell kind friend.

“Bed, Bath, and Beyond”

When I was young, I looked up to Sharon—not just because she was tall, like the palm trees, but because she had an oversized presence. She knew how to laugh, to smile widely, to tease and freeze you in your tracks—with funny stories, anecdotes from daily life (like hilarious encounters at the supermarket), her voice a musical blend of Kentucky and Hawaii.

As an adult, I still loooked up to her, enjoyed her warmth, marvelled at her spirit and grit, her passions and talents, her slightly off-color stories that set off sparks and belly laughs.

Her home was her theater, choreographed just right for family and friends: Thanksgiving dinners, Easter egg hunts, party games and dress-up, movie nights for Kavi and Helix.

How do you make sense of an absence, learn to use the past tense for someone so indelible in your life? How do you fill in a space that loomed so large in your mind?

Memories, like waves, wash over me: Sharon, as always, standing tall and impressive and beaming at the center.

Once a sister ~ always a sister! Sharon, an Eta "treasure" is treasured by her Eta sisters. Through her inspirational leadership, she led Eta as a president with exciting activities one being a Kentucky Derby Party betting on the wining horse! Donning beautiful and creatively made hats, a winner was selected from the group. The sister with the winning horse was also awarded a prize! That's Sharon, our fun and fun-loving president!

My relationship with Sharon began in 2005 when she was initiated into Eta Chapter. It flourished and today I epitomize her in bigness in everything she did and was. Bigness in stature and esteem, style and elegance. Bigness in generosity from offering ideas and suggestions at meetings and rides as an Uber picker-upper. Sharon's bigness was in being one of us, a typical local from Hawaii accepting all differences. She was a gracious sister exhibiting gratitude that came from a heart of pure gold.

Today, the memories we once shared are etched in my heart. They are never to be lost! Ellen Brenneman's poem, "Her Journey's Just Begun" best exemplifies the solace that now comforts me.

Sharon shared a quote at our Eta Chapter Birthday Celebration in January.
She sent this to us, “Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” — Marcel Proust

Sharon always saw the best in people.
I will remember her as the most kind, thoughtful, generous person who showed great hospitality when she opened her home to us for our chapter meetings when she was president.
