Sheenagh Uluwehi Burns Dr. Sheenagh Uluwehi Burns, Clinical Psychologist, only daughter of Hawaii’s late Governor John Anthony Burns and Beatrice M. Burns, passed away on December 27, 2015 at her home in Kailua. She was born in K Read Obituary
I remember sitting behind two long golden braids in my sophomore year and that's how I found Sheenagh ("Mibs" was the nickname she and I came up with for her.) Together we talked her parents into letting her cut her hair. Together we played basketball, softball and volleyball for the C.Y.O. parish team.
Because her dad and mine were friends, both president of Mid - Pacific Country Club at one time or other, they let her go "tootlin" around with me in my Dad's "woodie." There were large groups of guys and gals: Trask, Mahelona, Indie, Campos, Kuna, Takayama, among others who gathered to "talk story" go to movies and square dances, a great mixture of kids in Kailua, way before any tunnels went through the Koolau Mountains.
She was maid of honor at my wedding in 1954 and godmother for my daughter Beth in 1955. While she lived in Mountain View, CA we lost touch, but when we both moved back to Oahu, we picked up where we had left off.
We have mostly been email friends in recent years. This past holiday, invited by my daughter Zoe to spend the time in her Kailua house, I got to visit with Sheenagh every week. I would pick up Agnes' malasada and coffee and park under Sheenagh's apt. bldg. and spend one or two hours "talking story": old times, present-day politics, family and so forth. I did tell her that I wouldn't be able to come back for her services if and when and she said "I know."
As I said goodbye each time, we would hug, kiss on cheek, and say "I love you." and that is exactly how we said goodbye the week before she passed.
May God the Father and Mother, Yahweh, Allah and Buddha bless you my darlin' and your loved ones. See you soon, to swim together in Kailua Bay.
