I had the great privilege of being a student of Mr. Hershinow’s English 254W class in 1992. I remember Mr. H’s style of instruction encouraged student dialogue, critical thinking, and questions with or without answers. Mr. H was kind and challenged us to see things from different perspectives. He was an exemplary role model. I kept all of my essays from his class because of his thoughtful feedback – a reflection of his respect for the student and profession. I always remembered him and his positive impact on my wonderful teaching career. My sincere condolences. LM

My deepest condolences to Lorna and the Hershinow family. I was lucky to have worked with Shel as a faculty member and as Department Chair for Language Arts while he was Department Chair for Arts & Humanities. Ever gracious and kind, Shel was a mentor to me. Our offices were side-by-side, and in the many doorway conversations we shared, he showed me how to serve.
