Sherrie Kimiko Migdol's Obituary
Sherrie Kimiko (Okunami) Migdol passed away on May 11, 2022 after a long and brave fight with an illness. She was born in Hilo, Hawaii on July 7, 1976 to Herbert Okunami and Christine Okuhama. She graduated from Waiakea High School in 1994, then moved to Oahu, where she worked as a restaurant server while putting herself through nursing school. Sherrie graduated from Hawai`i Pacific University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005. She started working at Straub Medical Center in 2006, initially working in oncology, then telemetry, then pre-op and post-op, and finally in patient safety & quality. Her coworkers recall how she would brighten their days and make them laugh when things were stressful.
Sherrie married Steve Migdol on November 6, 2011 after a brief engagement, and they were inseparable ever after. She loved hiking, going to the beach, stand-up paddleboarding, and traveling. She explored 30 countries on 6 continents, savoring mountain vistas, relaxing in European cafes, marveling at ancient architecture, and trying new cuisines.
Serving the community was important to Sherrie, and she volunteered with the National Kidney Foundation, Meals on Wheels and Our Kūpuna. Despite her illness, she continued working on her master’s in health care delivery science at Arizona State University with the hope of being able to improve population health for our community.
The world is a little less bright without her in it. Besides her friends and colleagues, she will be deeply missed by her husband Steve, sister Laura Harada, brother Shayne Okuhama, and the rest of her family.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Valley of the Temples Mortuary. Visitation: 11:30 Service: 12:00 pm. Please see below for the live stream link that will begin at 11:30 am.
